Valentines Day

Guess what? I actually had a good Valentines day for a change... I was invited out for supper, so I started my day just getting ready... I needed money, so I went for a walk to the bank.. was a beauiful day for a walk too... I went to one of the banks in the mall.. then went upstairs and got a quick bite to eat.... then crossed over the pedway.. and that's the best way to cross Kent street in my opinion.. then went downstairs to Tim's and got a coffee... was busy in there at 3pm.. not really sure why... then I walked home... such a beautiful day for a walk, even if the sidewalks were a little hard to navigate because of snow cover..
For supper, I was invited to Brennan's for a private party.. there was about 10 of us, I think.. maybe more, maybe less, I'm not sure... the meal was exquisite, made by a private chef... a little too rich for my tastes, but still good... the most memorable part of the meal for me was the banana mint sorbet.. it came in a bowl made of ice... it looked like fine crystal.. I was incredibly impressed by that... and the conversation with the other diners was filled with the weather, politics, and life stories... it was a great night, and I believe it was enjoyed by all.. I hope I'm invited back next year...

Winter, Nascar, and Valentine's Day

Well, we're into our second snowstorm of the year, and it's-- wait a minute.. it's February... and this is only our second snowstorm??? Spring is just a few short weeks away... we've had ourselves a very strange winter.. It's been so warm here that the geese didn't even bother flying south... It's definitely the warmest winter I've ever experienced... and man, I love it... with very little snow and ice on the ground, I can actually go out for a walk.. which is something I usually don't get to do in winter.. I walked to the polling station on election day (Jan 23rd)... it was a cold walk, but there wasn't any ice on the ground... I'm wondering what the ice is like in the Northumberland Strait.. or even in the Gulf of St. Lawerence... if it isn't too bad, fishing season probably won't be delayed like it was last year... and maybe the ferries can start early (although, I doubt they will)..
The first sign of spring is upon us racing fans anyway.. the Daytona 500 is next weekend.. the Bud Pole Shootout was this weekend.. not sure who got the pole.. will have to check Nascar.com and find out..
Another thing that is upon us now... Valentime's Day is next week... oh, how I loathe the day reserved just for lovers.. where is the day for the bitter single people who have been shot down so many times that they've given up on love?? those people need a day too, you know... it could be called Bachelor(ette) Day... it would be a day when single people could walk into a fancy restaurant alone, and not have to pretend to be a food critic so they won't be embarrassed about not having a date.. perhaps they could receive cards and gifts from their partnered friends.. it would be a day to appreciate the single person... I wait for that day to come...
